5 Easy DIY Gifts

Last week I spoke about how you can celebrate a more sustainable Christmas this year, and I hope that you felt more inspired to get creative with your gift-giving and general decisions around the celebration.

I thought I would share with you 5 ideas that I have had or used previously, of gifts that you can make easily, affordably, just using a little bit of creativity and DIY attitude! I think that these sorts of gifts are even more appreciated by the receiver, and you also feel more pride in gifting too!

Food

Probably one of the easiest DIY gifts you can do, that don’t need a heck of a lot of creativity for. I loved making little Christmas-shaped cookies that we had fun hand decorating last year, and put them in little recyclable cardboard boxes as small gifts. I gave a box to my local courier driver too which he really appreciated! Here are some more ideas of food you can make:

  • Almond butter
  • Hummus
  • Chocolate bark (recipe on our instagram reels!)
  • Candied nuts
  • Brittle
  • Sauce
  • Jams
  • Fudge
  • Slices
  • Brownies
  • Crackers

Food is an easy way to the heart, especially baking (well, mine at least!). Don’t be afraid to get creative with decorating/packaging any of your baked goods too.

Jar mix recipes

Following along the baking trend, these are super easy to make and don’t actually involve you doing any of the baking! If you have any spare large jars laying around, and dry ingredients to make cookies or brownies, then that is all you need! Simply add the dry ingredients for whatever recipe you like layered in a jar, then write on a tag the rest of the wet ingredients to be added and how long to bake for. So easy! You can also do this for something like bliss balls or any slices too. Get creative!

Artwork

If you are anything like me and aren’t super crafty, please do not dismiss this! Artwork can come in so many different forms, you just have to tap into your creative side just a little bit… Here are a few quick ideas of different styles of artwork you can make as a gift:

  • Pressed dried flowers or leaves in a frame (Think leaves or flowers from a place where you shared a special memory to make it that much more special!)
  • Framed digital artwork
  • Write and frame a poem you, or someone else wrote
  • Paint a picture
  • Write a song
  • A photo book
  • Picture frame
  • Hand-crafted clay creation (ornament, mug, vase, bowl, plate, decoration, anything!)
  • Candles
  • String artwork

There are so many ways you can get creative with any form of art. You may even discover a hidden talent you never knew you had! I love receiving a form of art, it shows that effort and thought were put into the gift.

Plants

This year my mum has been taking a small cutting from some plants that she loves and has been growing them from water. She has some old, small empty pots, that once the plant has started to grow, she will put them in a cute pot plant and gift them. So creative and so clever! You can also take it a step further and create your own pot if you wanted. Don’t have any pots to spare? Head to your local op shops, or ask on your local community Facebook groups! Otherwise, go find a small local company that you can support by purchasing one from them.

DIY Beauty Products

Another creative and easy option for gifts is making DIY beauty products. Here are some ideas:

  • Sugar/coffee scrubs
  • Bath bombs
  • Face masks
  • Soaps
  • Salt spray for hair (beachy vibes without the beach!)

These can be so fun to make, and you will feel so proud once you have made them! Plus, who doesn’t love a good bit of self-care and beauty?

There are so many ways you can be creative with your DIY gifting this year. It is a month away now, so you have plenty of time to get ideas and get making!

Feel free to comment and share other ideas you have for DIY gifts this year

Happy gifting!
